The printer is currently preparing the first colour proofs for the Images 35 annual, which we will send out to featured illustrators/entrants as soon as they come in - hopefully by the first week in March.
Well, firstly: Happy Twentyeleven to everyone.
The main collection is all designed and ready to go to the printer soon so that they can print the first colour proofs. Everyone in the book should have received a pdf with their spread and the index so that all text is correct. We are hoping to get the proofs back by the end of February when we will post them out. In the meantime we will start on all other content such as teh introduction, editorial pages and AOI texts.
All on schedule for the 35th anniversary edition of Images.
The touring images should be arriving at Blackpool and Fylde College soon. The exhibition there opens end of January 2011. Do pop around have a look if yo haven't seen the touring show. Please check with the college for actual dates and opening times.
Apologies to the foreign selected entrants - they were omitted from the initial list below by accident. Please get in touch with Sabine Reimer if you haven't received your letter in the post.

Most selected illustrators seem to have received their letter by now, although Royal Mail is once again particularly slow delivering across London, but some will only receive the letter on the 11th or 12th, the day of the deadline.
Please don't panick about the deadline and take care when correcting your details and filling out the order form. It's allright if we receive your order back by the 18th November. But no later please. Award winner details - bio, portrait, sketches - can wait until the 24th November.Letters have been sent out to selected entrants on 3rd November. Please check the list below of selected illustrators if you should have received a letter by now. If your tutor or agent entered your work then the letter will have been sent there.
Well done to everyone selected
- as always there was tough competition and many illustrators were not selected. Please check the link if you are one of the selected entrants.
The jury has been in at the AOI for the second round of judging to look at the shortlist for the award winners and has now selected the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in all categories. We will be contacting selected entrants by the beginning of November and post a list here.Best of luck to all entrants!
Notifications of selection to publish will be announced in late October here and by post, so keep an eye on this news page if you have entered. Best of luck to all entrants! Images 34 is now available to purchase for £29.95
for everyone if you get in touch directly with the distributor: regine@centralbooks.comWe are pleased to announce that the deadline has been extended by two weeks to give all those smoking pencils a well deserved rest. All entries have to be paid for by the final deadline (midnight), otherwise they will be discarded and not be shown to the judges.
Please don't delete any of your paid for entries - get in touch with Sabine to
replace these images for you. The payment is linked to the image code
and if you delete it the linked payment gets deleted as well and you
will be asked to pay again.
We are currently hanging the exhibition to be ready for the big opening on the 7th September. The Private View party is strictly by invitation only, but the exhibitionis open to everyone from the 8th - 14th September. Although we have much less space we hope it will be just as nice as in the previous years.
Those eligible and who RSVP'd in time will be able to take their annuals home, everyone else will have to wait a few days for it to be deliverd to them by post. The mailing house will start ddelivering them from the 8th September.
All featured illustrators (and their entrants) will receive a copy, as well as around 4000 industry commissioners.
Apologies - there was a typo in the previous post about the Images 34 PV. It should have read:
The private view awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 7th September at the LCC, wih the exhibition open for the general public until the 14th September. After this, part of the London show will go on touring the UK for a year. Illustrators on this list are invited and should have received an email or will receive one the latest by Wednesday, 23 June 2010. Please remember that these will go to the entrant, so if you were entered by your agent/commissioner/tutor the email will go there. There is a slight delay in sending out the loan agreements to all illustrators who will be invited to feature in the Images 34 exhibition, but we are hpoing to get them out next week (by 18 June).

Images 35 competition
Deadline: Tuesday 31st August 2010
Shake your feathers, strut your stuff – enter your brightest and best. Get ready to prepare your entries for the annual competition, exhibition and travelling show that is Images 35. Go to the competition page to get more information and read the terms for entry and fees page carefully.
Most colour proofs were sent out on Friday and many of you have already replied. Thank you very much for co-operating.Unfortunately AOI has not had power for a few days, which means that all services including phone, data server and kettle are down, and it might continue until Wednesday 10 March, so we can't log any of the replies or get back to your enquiries. Most illustrators are happy with the colours it seems, so not many comments to log. We will do our best to get back to you as soon as we can, but please keep in mind that there will be a backlog of enquiries of a few days and it will take a while to get on top of things again.
AOI would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We just got word that the 1st colour proofs for Images 34 are ready and on their way to us, and we are expecting to send them out Friday 5th or Monday 8th March. Please expect them in the post and check immediately for colour accuracy and any mistakes when they come in - and get back to the Images Co-ordinator Sabine Reimer with either approval or comments. We have to get corrections to the designer by the 16th March in order to stick to the printing schedule, so your prompt reply is very important (and much appreciated!).
The illustrations featured in the best of British illustration annual 2009 are now available to view in an online catalogue.
To make commissioning the perfect illustrator even more convenient, you can now browse all artwork with search and zoom functions and contact details for the illustrators or their agents.
If you would like to buy a copy of the beautiful hardback book with essays by Malcolm Garrett, Mike Dempsey and many others for only £29.95 please get in touch directly with the distributor: regine@centralbooks.com The Images 33 Tour brought the sunshine with it to Suffolk when it was opened in Ipswich on Wednesday with a speech by Mark Wigan at the private view celebrating just how good we British illustrators are at our jobs. Don’t miss the opportunity if you are in that part of the country to pop by and enjoy the work in a superb new gallery setting. The first layout of the book has now been sent to the printer to prepare the first colour proofs and we are expecting them back early March, when we will post them out to published entrants (so if your agent entered your work it will go to them). Please keep an eye out in the post beginning of March and inform us of any address changes.
We will now start work on the other pages for the book like the essays, jury pages and
AOI texts. We think the book is looking great so far.
The layout of the main collection is about ready to be sent to the printer for first colour proofs. We are expecting to get them back and send out to the entrants late February/beginning of March. Please inform us of any address changes and keep an eye out for them in the post. All featured Images illustrators, entrants and the jury might want to mark Tuesday 7th September 2010 in their calendars for the I34 private view night. Beer on the night at LCC, Elephant & Castle, will be summery organic Honeydew, kindly provided by Fuller's.
You can check if you are one of the chosen few here.
Selected entrants should have received a letter and email from us with details of how to publish in Images.
Contact the Images Co-ordinator Sabine by email at images@theaoi.com or call: 020 7324 7223 if you haven't received anything yet but your name is on the list.
All publishing information can be found on the production page.
Please don't disclose yet if you are an award winner as we would like to officially announce the winners at the private view night.
Letters of acceptance have been sent out now and should arrive with everyone who was selected by the jury to feature in Images 34 very soon. We will post a list of selected illustrators over the weekend / early next week and also email everyone to confirm. Please be patient if your letter has not arrived yet.
The judges have now cast their votes and been in to decide on award winners. It is very exciting to see the content of the new annual take shape and some great work has been selected. We are currently still assembling the list of illustrations and will send out notification letters as soon as these lists are prepared. We will do our best to get them out before the postal strike starts next week. The list of selected illustrators will be posted here, so keep checking this page if you have entered Images 34 and are keen to find out if your work was selected to feature.

I33 Awards Night
Here are a few more photos of the Images 34 Awards Night. AOI supplied the
drinks, whilst beer sponsors Estrella Damm supplied the refreshing beer. Illustrious
illustrator, Peter Till, presented the certificates and trophies to the Images
33 Award winners.

A splendid evening was had by all who attended the Images
33 private view this Tuesday. Having attended for many years I can honestly
say this is the nicest space the AOI have had to display the show. Hundreds
of works on show in several rooms throughout a spacious, airy, well-lit
gallery environment. There were a couple of professional photographers
taking in the event and those pictures will appear soon on AOIimages.com,
in the meantime here’s a shot of the main bar area and one from
the balcony looking down to one of the gallery ones on the lower floor.
